Beautiful Treasures Part 3: Gaining Wisdom

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom, and in all your getting, get understanding.

Proverbs 4:7

Wisdom in one of the chief aspects of God. In fact wisdom is personified in the book of Proverbs as a beautiful woman who has been with God since the beginning. The lady wisdom also cries out to the children of men to teach them her ways. She possesses both riches and honor and promises to enhance the life of any who are able to put in the time and effort to make sure that they keep her. (Proverbs 8)

In the past couple days we have talked about knowledge and understanding and how these can be precious and priceless treasures in our lives. Wisdom is the culmination of knowledge and understanding. We are not really wise with just knowledge. There are plenty of foolish people that know a lot of stuff. And many who have understanding about how do things are still not wise. The are many people that "sit" on their understanding and don't apply it to their lives. That is wasted talent and opportunity. True is wisdom is the application of knowledge and understanding. James 3:13-16 speaks about this practicality of true wisdom. Who among you is wise and knows about things? He should show what he knows by his good life. It the practical application of what we know that will show that we are truly wise.

God wants us to be wise in all that we do. Even though we had failed and fallen away from God, He didn't leave us to our own foolishness. He knew we couldn't do it, and so His wisdom was to give us Jesus. Jesus became for us the very wisdom of God in our salvation. (I Corinthians 1:30-31). Trusting in God is the wisest thing that we will ever do. Trusting Christ for our salvation is wisdom. And not only that, but trusting Him in everything we do is turning from self and folly to the wisdom that God says is healthiness and sane living. (Proverbs 3:5-8)

When we truly find wisdom in our lives, then we shall find that our life is full of precious treasures. Wisdom will permeate our entire lives: mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, and even financial. But not so that we can became as rich as Solomon, but so that God can get the glory and honor from as we share these riches with others. Because that is God's wisdom for us--freely you have received, freely give.

Blessings to you!
