Joy Part 2: Rejoicing in the Word of God

Your words were found and I ate them, and Your words were to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart.

Jeremiah 15:16

People all over the world are searching for answers. Many have proclaimed that they have found it--some have even said that they are it. God does not want us to grope around blindly in the dark for the answer. He has left a sure witness--the Bible--the Word of God. The very book that has transformed societies and nations for thousands of years is still the most powerful book in the world. In it we can find everything we need that pertains to this life and living the right life before God. Think about it: If the Creator of the universe left us a book to read, it should be the number one attraction of our lives. The Psalmist said it like this, "I rejoice in Your word, as one who finds great treasure." Psalm 119:162

Sadly, many of those who call themselves Christians do not value the Word of God. They muddle through this life claiming that they know Jesus, yet they fail to believe in the Book that witnesses about Him from Genesis to Revelation. Some debunk the Bible as a falsehood that has been drastically changed throughout the years to control the masses. These people fail to give credence to the study of textual criticism of the which the Bible stands so far above any other book in history that comparison would be like looking at the difference between the height of a man and the height of the Empire State building. There are no comparisons. The Bible stands alone as the Word of God: unaltered, unchanged, and unstoppable. It is living and powerful.

Those who have this understanding and wisdom cling to the Word of God. They know that "The law of the Lord is perfect, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes." (Psalm 119:8) They exalt God's word because in it they find the exceedingly great and precious promises that bring great joy. These are promises from a God who cannot fail and cannot lie. His Word is true. This is the secret joy of the Christ follower. Instead of gazing and longing for the temporary things of the world, they look in the Word of God to see Him who is Faithful and True.

The Word brings life. Through the Word of God salvation comes--not just a get out of hell free card. People who rejoice in Gods word have been saved, are being saved, and will be saved forever. Faith, hope and love are found within its precious pages and the more we read it, study it, and live it, the more we will find ourselves experiencing true joy.
